Fr. Patrick O'Rourke is from Toledo, Ohio and went to school at the Ohio State University, where he spent most of his undergraduate time as a fine art student. In the summer before his final year at Ohio State, Fr. Patrick discovered the Orthodox Christian faith. After reading a few books, and some miraculous experiences, he walked into Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Columbus, OH and was and was "awed by the beauty." He was Chrismated into the Church two months later on August 24, 2008. He graduated from Ohio State with a BA Journalism in May 2009.
Fr. Patrick began to study iconography with a master iconographer after college. Then, he was selected for an intensive post-graduate fellowship at the John Jay Institute in Philadelphia. At the end of this 15-week course, he interned with renowned Orthodox architect and artisan Andrew Gould in Charleston, South Carolina. Together with Andrew and Jonathan Pageau, he established the online publication "The Orthodox Arts Journal." Then, he entered Holy Cross in 2012, originally intending to pursue an academic study of Orthodox art and architecture, but changed course to the seminarian track after one year. Ordained a deacon on Palm Sunday 2016 by His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Toledo, OH, he proceeded to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Holy Cross later in the Spring of 2016. He has served three parishes, and is now the Chief of Staff back at his Alma Mater, Hellenic College Holy Cross.
Fr. Patrick continues to pursue Orthodox sacred art, primarily in digital media, focusing on the ways our two-millennium tradition of church-made beauty can be translated into the digital spaces we now inhabit.
Fr. Patrick and Presvytera Jessica are parents to their sons Jacob and Lucas.
Father Patrick celebrates his Name Day March 17, on the feast of St. Patrick of Ireland.
